The scores of the 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) exams are out! After a long wait, students and parents now know what the result of their hard work was. There was curiosity about how the students performed. Let’s take a brief analysis of this year’s scores.

Excellent Performance in Some Subjects

Highest Score For AP Exam 2024: Students have performed exceptionally well in some subjects. For example, out of the nearly 330,000 students who have scored so far, 299 students scored a perfect 120 on the AP US Government exam. This includes essay, short answer and multiple choice questions. Similarly, out of the nearly 152,000 students, 45 students scored a perfect 64 on the AP PreCalculus exam. The College Board will notify these students and their schools individually in September.

It is clear from these figures that students had prepared thoroughly for some subjects and performed excellently in the examination.

Subject-wise Score Distribution

The College Board has not yet released the distribution of scores for all subjects, but preliminary data for some subjects has appeared. You can see how students performed in some subjects in the table:

  • Excellent Performance: Students performed very well this year in AP Pre-Calculus in Mathematics and Computer Science section. According to the analysis, around 45 students scored a perfect 64 marks (64/64), which is 100% of the total marks.
  • Balanced Scores: Students performed well on the AP US Government exam in the History and Social Sciences section. According to preliminary data, about 299 students scored all the marks out of a total of 120 in the essay, short answer questions, and multiple choice questions.
  • Challenging Topics: Students faced some challenges in some topics. For example, in the Mathematics and Computer Science section, while they did well on the AP Pre-Calculus multiple choice test (Data Analysis and Unit 5: Political Participation), some students had difficulty with questions that required describing properties of functions (Skip 3A).

Note: The percentages shown in the table are approximate and do not represent the full score distribution. The College Board will release detailed score distributions for all subjects in the near future. (Score distributions for subjects with unavailable data have not yet been released.)

Challenges in Some Areas

However, the results were not consistent across subjects. For example, on the AP Pre-Calculus multiple-choice exam, the questions “Describing the characteristics of a function” were found to be the most difficult. The average number of students who answered these questions correctly was only 46%.

This data indicates that students may need additional preparation in some specific areas.
